Lavender Out Of Stock Explanation

True lavender, Lavandula angustifolia, is grown in Europe — Frontier Co-op® labels the species on our bulk packaging to assure our customers that they’re receiving this specific type. Due to global supply pressure and the ready availability of a number of hybrids and alternative-type flowers, the misnaming or adulteration of this highly prized species is widespread.

Frontier Co-op also recognizes that many of our customers are using this product as a food item, and as such it is tested and handled to ensure safety and quality along food guidelines.

Frontier Co-op evaluates every shipment of lavender to ensure only pure, unadulterated angustifolia is in our packages. This testing includes every lot being passed through a gas chromatograph to detect and determine components specific to angustifolia, confirming the species, as well as multiple tests on the product to ensure its safety and suitability before packing the product for use.

As a result, there may be times when our lavender is unavailable to our customers. We continue to search for sources of angustifolia lavender that meet our exacting standards. We believe that when it comes to your food and what you feed to your family — the best things are always worth the wait.

Frontier Co-op recently completed a market survey of other brands selling lavender product. From this study we found that only 3 brands of the 11 brands we tested identified the species, and only one of those identified it as angustifolia. Although some of the brands did have angustifolia in their product offerings, 7 of the 11 were hybrids of lavender.

On evaluating the products for cleanliness, not one sample passed — with results showing anywhere from 20% to over 600% higher than the required maximum levels allowable in Frontier Co-op specifications.
