This Cooling Aloe & Cucumber Soothing Gel is perfect for post-sun soothing, calming irritated skin, and providing a burst of hydration. Aloe vera is known for its healing and moisturizing properties, while cucumber offers a cooling and de-puffing effect.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup fresh aloe vera gel (scooped directly from a healthy aloe plant leaf)
- 1/4 cup chopped cucumber (peeled or unpeeled, your preference)
- 1 teaspoon witch hazel (optional, for additional toning)
- 5-10 drops lavender essential oil (optional, for soothing and scent)
- 1/2 teaspoon vitamin E oil (natural preservative and skin nourishment)
Equipment:
- Blender or food processor
- Fine mesh strainer (optional, for a smoother gel)
- Airtight container (preferably glass)
Instructions:
- Prepare Aloe: Carefully cut an outer leaf from an aloe vera plant. Stand it upright in a cup for 10-15 minutes to allow the yellow latex to drain (this can be irritating to some skin). Wash the leaf thoroughly.
- Extract Gel: Slice open the aloe leaf and scoop out the clear gel with a spoon. Be careful not to include any of the green skin.
- Blend: Combine the aloe vera gel and chopped cucumber in a blender or food processor. Blend until smooth and frothy.
- Strain (Optional): For a super smooth gel, strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer to remove any remaining cucumber pulp or aloe fibers.
- Add Extras: Stir in the witch hazel (if using), lavender essential oil, and vitamin E oil. Mix well.
- Store: Pour the gel into an airtight container. Store in the refrigerator for up to 1-2 weeks.
How to Use: Apply a generous layer to sun-exposed skin, after showering, or anytime your skin needs a cooling and hydrating boost.
