Commonly known as the “poor man’s rose”, due to its similarity in aroma and benefits to rose, yet its lower price point. This is mostly due to the amount of geranium essential oil the farmer can yield during distillation, compared to the amount of rose oil they can yield. Geranium, Pelargonium graveolens, is popular in calming diffusions, as well as facial skin care recipes.
Pelargonium graveolens is an erect, multi-branched shrub, that grows up to 1.5 meter. The leaves are deeply incised, velvety and soft to the touch (due to glandular hairs). The flowers vary from pale pink to almost white and the plant flowers from August to January. The leaves may be strongly rose-scented, although the leaf shape and scent vary. Some plants are very strongly scented and others have little or no scent.
Aura Cacia Geranium Essential Oil is grown and distilled in Egypt.
Geranium essential oil blends well with a variety of floral, citrus and woodsy essential oils, such as bergamot, citronella, lavender, rose, sandalwood, and ylang ylang.
